PhD in Basque Philology
(The University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea),
he wrote his dissertation under the academic supervision of Professor
Mitxelena. MA in Sociology and Political Science from the University
of Deusto, where he also studied Basque Philology, he is at present
Professor of Basque Linguistics in the UPV/EHU, after having finished
his studies in some North American universities: Massachusetts Institute
of Technology (MIT), Cornell University, University of New Mexico,
University of Nevada, etc.

Miguel Etxenike Landiribar
He
was born in Isaba, Navarra in 1950, Pedro Miguel Etxenike is a Bachelor
of Science and Physics in the Navarra University, where he obtained
a Special Distinction and the National Award for the End of Career.
He is a Doctor in Physics in the Cambridge University, and Doctor
in Physics in the Autonoma University in Barcelona (Special Distinction).
Between 1980 to 1983, he has been an adviser of the Education Department
of the Basque Government, between the years 1983-84 adviser of the
Education and Cultural Department and between 1983-84 also acted
as spokesman for the Basque Government.
Presently, and since 1986, he is Professor of Physics of condensed
material in the Basque Country University. He has been a guest Professor
in the Cavendish Laboratory in the Cambridge University and Fellow
of the Churchill College in the same city. He is also a Professor
in the Cambridge University.
He forms part of the Royal Academy of Exact Science, Physics and
Natural and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Pedro
Miguel Etxenike has obtained diverse awards among which stand out
the following: The Prince of Asturias Prize, The Xabier Maria de
Munibe Prize of Science and Technology, The Basque Country Prize
1 of Investigation and the Prince of Viana Prize for Culture, obtained
in 1997. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of FBBV, of
the Excellence Council of Ikaskuntza and the Trilateral Commission.
His investigating interest is centred mainly in the Physics of surfaces,
interaction of charges and radiation with material, microscopy and
the tunnel effect. Professor Etxenike has published a big number
of literary work in specialised books and magazines and given courses
and conferences in diverse international centres: Cambridge, Berkeley,
Berlin, Tokyo, Vienna, London, Helsinki, Kyoto, Oak Ridge, New York
and Munich.

Anjel Lertxundi Esnal
Anjel
Lertxundi, Basque writer was born in Orio in 1948, before dedicating
himself professionally to writing, worked in teaching and in journalism
for various years. Studied Teaching and Philosophy in San Sebastian,
Rome and Valencia. Presently he is dedicated above all to literary
creations. Besides novels and collections of Fairy Tales, he is
also dedicated to essays, juvenile literature and writes articles
regularly in the press. He is a corresponding member of Euskaltzaindia,
he was the first President of Euskal Idazleen Elkartea and has been
awarded a great many prizes among which can be found Basque Country
Literature Prize (2 times) and the Critical Prize (2 times).

of Zaragoza in the 1970-71 promotion.

Nine years at the Banco de Vizcaya's Regional Management as Regional
Head of Assets and Liabilities.
Since 1981, he has been General-deputy Director of the former Caja
de Ahorros Provincial de Guipúzcoa, as head of the Human
Resource, Welfare Work and General Secretariat Areas.
As from 1992, he has been Head of Human Resources, Communication
and Welfare Work for Kutxa, after the mergers of the former Caja
de Ahorros Provincial de Guipuzcoa and Caja de Ahorros y Monte de
Piedad Municipal from San Sebastian.
As from July 2001 to date: Director of General Secretariat and Director
of the Board and Welfare Work.

Antonio
Rivera is a profesor of Contemporary History at the Basque Country
University (UPV-EHU). At the present time he is a parliamentarian
in the VIII Legislature of the Basque Parliament, he was elected
as an independent in the PSE-EE lists. Between 1997 and 2004 he
was vice-rector of the Alava Campus of the Basque Country University
(UPV-EHU). At the beginnining he dedicated his investigations to
the city of Vitoria, where the following books appeared 'The situation
and behaviour of the working class in Vitoria, 1900-1915' (UPV-EHU,
1985) and 'The Leviticus city'. Vitoria, from 1876-1936 (Statutory
Committee of Alava, 1992). Later he focused on studies, together
with Luis Castells, of Basque Urban areas during the XIX to the
XX centuries, outstanding articles like 'A huge factory, a huge
tavern, a huge sacristy', and 'The daily rumour' (UPV-EHU, 2000).
He also published with Mikel Aizpuru a 'Social work history manual',
of the XXI Century (Madrid 1995), with a Basque edition (UPV-EHU,
1996) and used a lot in the Spanish and Latin American universities.
Supervised as collective works two volumes of the 'Lur Entziklopedia'(History
of the Basque Country and Universal History), in Basque, and also
'History of Alava', edited by Nerea in 2003. In that year 'Identifying
Marks. Left wing workers and nation in the Basque Country, 1880-1923'
(New Library) was published. He is a regular in the press, a permanent
collaborator with the Correo Group newspapers (Vocento) and occassionally
in others like 'El Pais'. He is 46 years old now, married and has
three children. He lives and works in Vitoria.

born in Pamplona in 1949. She studied teaching and later did a Bachelor
of Basque Philology at the Deusto University, in the first 1981
class. In 1990 obtained a doctorate with a thesis 'Euskal Atlas
linuistikorako ekarria: fonetika galdekizuna eta haren erabilpena;
datu bilketa eta kartografiak eta Nafarroako zenbait lekutan'.
She has always worked in teaching. She was a teacher in the Iruñea
Ikastola (School) for one year, and for four years between 1970-74
in the Paz de Ziganda Ikastola. At present, she is working in the
Basque Philology Department, teaching Basque dialectology and Phonetic
History. She has been director of the Institute of Basque Studies
at the Deusto University between 1991-98, she also filled the post
of vice-rector of Basque in the above mentioned university between
1998-2000, moreover she belonged to the University Management Committee
Network for Student Affairs.
Eskultzaindia named her in 1991 eskaltzain urgazle, and for many
years has worked in the Dialectology and spoken Basque commissions.
She was a member of the academic commissions at the Principe Bonaparte
centenary and the Oihenart fourth centenary in 1992.
Among the outstanding published works are those done in the dialectology
and phonetics fields, publishing the Principe Bonaparte bequest.
Belonging to Eusko Ikaskuntza since 1981 and the Spanish Linguistic
Association since 1990. She has been a member of the Friends of
the Country Society since 1995 and has been a member of the Basque
Commission of the Basque Government (1999-2002).
