IMPACT
OF "PENTSAMENDUAREN KLASIKOAK". The
"Pentsamenduaren Klasikoak" project, like any other similar
project that has developed in the sociolinguistic conditions that the
Basque language and culture present, has a double and clear impact. On
one hand, it contributes to create the published infrastructure necessary
for secondary and higher education, supplying at the same time the cultural
references in the media in general and even offers important material
for essays and literary creation.
On the other hand, it constitutes authentic support for the linguistic unification, creating a rich and varied prose for philosophy, science and essay in general, setting Batua Basque with important dialectical contributions. The great challenge that each and every translator faces contributes effectively to the enrichment of the lexicon and the syntactic flexibility of the language at the same time that the traditional heritage increases significantly loans and replicas from the most varied cultural and linguistic sources. Lastly, the substantial training and conditioning of a thirty or so translators in more than half a dozen languages (Greek, Latin, French, English, German, Italian, Spanish...) that the project provides, with the collaboration of more or less the same number of reviewers and scholars of Basque means the creation of an unprecedented linguistic melting pot and the lubrication of a translating machine required for the ever-growing and important work of cultural exchange in the coming years. This and much more is what can be said in general terms about the ambitious project, "Pentsamenduaren Klasikoak", which, from an almost utopian dream, has become in a short period of time, a harvester of the ripest fruits of occidental culture for the Basque culture. The
non-profit corporation that has made the aforementioned project possible,
called Klasikoak, S.A., was established in September, 1991 as the result
of initiative shared by the Foundation BBV, the Savings Banks of the Basque
Autonomous Community - BBK, Kutxa and Vital, the University of the Basque
Country and the University of Deusto. |
